We’re set for a massive clash at Anfield on Sunday as we host Tottenham Hotspur and look to reclaim top spot from Manchester City in the Premier League.
The whole world is watching this title race, but over in Holland it’s Dirk Kuyt flying the flag for us. The former Reds striker belives that we can go all the way and win it this time.
In comments reported by The Daily Star, the Dutchman was full of positivity: “I’m confident because they have a great team. And if you look to the supporters, if you walk in the city, everyone is desperate for a trophy.
“Everyone is feeling that some things are coming together and hopefully for Liverpool it’s this season. The team can be very proud of the effort they have given and the results they have got so far.
“It’s a team and maybe even more than a team. It looks like a family.
“Every game is now a final for them and all I can say is that I wish them very good luck.”

The former Kop stiker also had nothing but praise for his fellow countrymen. With Virgil van Dijk and Gini Wijnaldum in our team keeping things tight and ticking over, Kuyt believes we’re on the cusp of greatness.
“Everyone in Holland is very proud of Virgil and also of Gini. We want to see them winning a trophy at Liverpool,” he revealed. “They put in so much effort in every game.
“Virgil is the type of player who has his own style. Very classy and a real confident player. Every human sometimes makes small mistakes.
“But what was very special to me was that after the mistake against Fulham, he just kept playing. He got straight back to his level and that’s a great mental skill.
“Not many players have that. With Virgil, it doesn’t matter if he scores the winning goal or makes a mistake, he’s always the same kind of player.
“He’s playing at a high level in the Premier League so every week he’s playing against the best strikers in the world. That makes him an even better player.
“He’s the kind of person who still wants to become a better player and he’s a great character. Defensively, I can’t name any better defender in the world at the moment.”
Of course, everyone seems to be in awe of Van Dijk for his physical performances on the pitch, but Kuyt has interestingly praised his mental fortitude.
He’s right to do so: that’s what makes our No. 4 world class!
It’s not just his aerial prowess, calmness on the ball, and passing skills – it’s also his cognitive abilities of leadership, composure, and his zen-like confidence that makes him such a supreme centre-back.
