Mind-blowing assists stat demonstrates world-class calibre of Trent and Robertson

Absolutely bossing our flanks, Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold’s lung-busting runs and whipped crosses have been one of the driving forces behind the Reds this season.

But this statistic from Alex Mansfield is completely ridiculous!

Between the pair of them, our full-backs have racked up more assists than 38 teams across the Premier League, La Liga, the Bundesliga, Serie A, and Ligue 1. Now that’s impressive!

Especially when you consider that Robertson cost us £8 million from Hull and Trent is a born and bred Academy graduate. Even simply in terms of pure assists, we’ve arguably got the best full-back pair in world football right now.

As early as September 2018, right at the start of the season, the two began another assist competition to see who could outdo the other. Back then, the Scot said, “I’m sure it’ll be tight; if I keep up with him with his assists then I’m sure we’ll both have a good season.” You’ve done more than that, lad!

Trent and Robbo, on 11 and nine league assists respectively, top the charts for assists by a defender in the Premier League this season – you have to go down to six assists to find their nearest challenger: Leicester’s Ricardo Pereira with six.

Robertson himself has the same number of assists (11) as Riyad Mahrez, Son Heung-min, and Jesse Lingard combined!

Leading the way as an assist-notching defender, Robertson will be hoping that he can further add to this tally tonight at St James’ Park by creating something for our front three.
