Leipzig chief hints that Reds are in for Germany forward

RB Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff has hinted that Timo Werner could join the Reds in the summer, naming Jurgen Klopp as one of the coaches that the Germany forward ‘might’ want to work under.

Leipzig are probably desperate not to lose their star striker to Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich, and so would prefer to see him move abroad.

PSG and Dortmund were also named by Mintzlaff, though, so it could just be that he wants to engineer a bidding war to get the best price.

According to BuliNews, he said: “The situation is still the same. Timo Werner would rather not sign an extension, but that could change.

“I don’t think it’s completely out of the question that he could extend his deal. We haven’t talked to Bayern Munich about Timo Werner yet.

“Maybe he doesn’t even want to go to Munich. Maybe he would rather join [Thomas] Tuchel in Paris, Klopp at Liverpool or [Lucien] Favre at Dortmund.”

Liverpool are almost certainly going to be in the market for another forward player this summer, even if Divock Origi is to stay at the club.

Werner, with 16 goals in 30 league matches this season and with only 12 months left on his contract, might well fit the bill. Still only 23, he will certainly be one that is under consideration.

The Reds will face stiff competition if Werner is the man they end up going for. This is a rumour that just will not go away.
