Although the Reds have been linked with the 19-year-old centre-back, the Echo are suggesting that Anfield top brass have no plans in place to go ahead with the purchase of De Ligt.
With Joël Matip in fine form having stepped up from fourth-choice to successfully partner Van Dijk, Joe Gomez scheduled to the return to the majestic performances of ealier this season, and Dejan Lovren providing effective cover, Jürgen Klopp seems to be content with his options.
So with centre-back seemingly sewn up, Pearce has claimed that it’s proper cover at full-back and a versatile attacking option that the Reds will be pursuing this summer.
Alberto Moreno and Daniel Sturridge are staring at the exit door and we’ll need to find replacements in both departments, despite Rhian Brewster set to make the step up to the senior side and come in as a new No. 9.
Those positional priorities mean that it could be Barcelona who eventually secure the Dutchman’s signature with a host of other top clubs circling around the current Ajax captain. We’ll just have to wait and see.
Liverpool ARE NOT trying to sign Matthijs de Ligt despite reports & Jürgen Klopp has no plans to strengthen at centre-back as he’s happy with the depth in that position. Transfer priorities for #LFC are full-back cover & a versatile attacker. [@JamesPearceEcho] pic.twitter.com/nzP92iIsti
