After beating Watford and winning the FA Cup, Pep Guardiola was livid after being grilled in his post-match press conference about receiving separate payments from Manchester City’s Abu Dhabi owners.
The Catalan has just battered Watford 6-0 and recorded the first-ever domestic treble in men’s football, but Pep was unable to enjoy the moment.
A reporter opened the subject of reported leaks about alleged payments to Roberto Mancini to maintain the club’s compliance with Uefa’s financial fair play regulations.
Pep infuriatedly responded: “Do you know the question you’re asking me? Did I receive money for another situation, right now, today?
Honestly, do you think I deserve to have this type of question, the day we won the treble, did I receive money? Are you accusing me of receiving money?”
Guardiola didn’t deny the claims, he simply refuted the idea of the question even being asked. For whatever reason, he just couldn’t say no to the claims that were being brought against him.
City have continued to deny that they have done anything wrong despite recent suggestions that Uefa could level a one-year ban against the club competing in the Champions League – the trophy Pep was arguably hired to win.
