Speaking in Madrid at the Hotels.com UEFA Champions League Retreat, former Reds boss Rafa Benitez claimed that English fans are the most passionate supporters in football.
“If you talk about passion, and you talk about people going to the stadiums, supporting the team before and after the game – even when you’re losing 3-0 – I think the English fans are quite good”, the Spaniard said with a wry smile.
We love that Rafa has made that reference to Istanbul with the 3-0 comment. It’s clear he still has a massive love of the Reds and we love that he’s bringing it up days before the Champions League final.
Despite saying that fans in Italy are up there (quoting his time at the helm with Napoli), and that Spanish fans are also some of the most lively, Rafa reserved his highest praise for fans from England.
We think its fairly obvious that he wants to say “Liverpool fans”!
