After 141 appearances for the Reds, Alberto Moreno officialy departed the club on July 1st bringing to an end a five-year stay at Anfield.

A dressing room favourite, the Spaniard took to social media to bilingually announce his departure and to thank every single person at the club, the city, and all Reds fans.

“Life goes in circles, and mine at my beloved Liverpool FC has drawn to an end,” Moreno began.

“Upon reaching this point, I would like to thank the entire Liverpool family: my dear team-mates, with whom I have shared five marvellous years and who I will forever think of as family, and, of course, the owners, directors, coaching staff, doctors, physios, kitmen, and each and every person at the club.

“Thank you for making me a better footballer and, above all, a better person; for helping me to fulfil one of my childhood dreams by winning the Champions League and, in doing so, to become a small part of the history of this great club.

“Finally, a very special thank you to the club’s superb fans, who always supported me. I wish you all at Liverpool FC the greatest successes. Wherever life takes me from here, I will always carry you in my heart and forever be a fan.”

Moreno arrived on Merseyside to great fanfare in 2014, after his performances for Sevilla excited fans – that excitement was vindicated when he scored a great goal against Spurs at White Hart Lane in just his second game for the Reds.

Despite featuring heavily in his first two seasons at Liverpool, the 2016/17 season saw Moreno dropped after a poor showing against Arsenal – the season James Milner replaced him at left-back

In 2017/18, he played until around November before questions marks appeared again (losing a three goal advantage against when the Reds played his boyhood club, Sevilla, represented a turning point).

After that, Andy Robertson supremely took over when Moreno sustained an ankle injury in December 2017; the Scottish full-back established himself as one of the best in the business, limiting Alberto to just five appearances this season.

According to Marca, Moreno will be joining La Liga side Villareal this summer and we hope that a return to his native Spain will allow him to reignite his career.
