Striker arrives at Melwood today, with Reds hopeful he’ll pen terms soon

Divock Origi will join up with his Liverpool team-mates, along with Xherdan Shaqiri, today – with the pair set to start pre-season training this Monday.

The official website has reported that Liverpool’s Champions League hero will arrive at Melwood shortly, along with our much-loved Swiss playmaker.

Our first friendly of the summer takes place on Thursday v Tranmere Rovers, and both could be in contention for minutes.

We imagine Origi will still be glowing following his goal that secured our 2-0 victory in the Champions League Final v Spurs on June 1.

The Belgian had already etched his name into Anfield folklore with a brace v Barcelona in the semi-final, having already notched a last minute winner v Everton earlier in the campaign.

As a result, Liverpool want to secure Origi’s future, as his current contract expires in 2020.

“He has been promised a bigger role next season now [Daniel] Sturridge has left. They’ve offered him good money. I think he will sign a new deal for four or five years”, respected Belgian journalist Kristoff Terreur said recently on the Sky Sports Transfer Talk podcast.

We have no issue with this – although do look at Manchester City’s mind-boggling strength in attacking depth and feel it’ll take a monumental effort to beat them to the title with Origi and Rhian Brewster as our backup offensive options.

City have Leroy Sane, Gabriel Jesus and Riyad Mahrez warming the bench, which is simply ridiculous.

For us, one top notch attacker signing and we’d be over the moon – but at this stage – it’s looking increasingly unlikely.
