Everton boldly target £59m star who’s dividing opinion amongst Liverpool reporters

Everton have been credited with a genuine interest in Lille forward Nicolas Pepe.

The Telegraph state they want the 24-year-old to bolster the club’s attack ahead of the 2019/20 campaign; with the French side putting a £59m price-tag upon the Ivorian’s shoulders.

Liverpool have been linked with Pepe plenty, although English journalists and those in France differ strongly on whether there’s a genuine ambition from the Reds to sign him.

We explained the furore in an earlier piece this morning – check it out – here!

Pepe is a left-footed speedster who probably does his best work on the right, much like Mo Salah, but can play elsewhere along the frontline.

He’d be a nice addition, but we’re siding with the Merseyside reporters in that we don’t think he’ll be signing for Liverpool this summer.

Today, Divock Origi signed a long-term deal and Rhian Brewster is going to be given first-team chances opportunities – as was promised in order to keep him at the club in 2018.

Considering we already have the world’s best front-three, there potentially isn’t room for another £50m+ attacker.

Of course, a serious injury to anybody changes things dramatically, but it seems that’s a risk Liverpool are willing to take.
