Neil Mellor will always have a spot in the hearts of Reds following his performances in the run-up to our Champions League Final victory in 2005.
The former Red played a key role in the victory over Olympiakos, you’ll remember!
Mellor now works as a pundit and has tweeted his opinions on Andy Lonergan, the 35-year-old keeper who is training with Liverpool in America during our US Tour.
According to Mellor, Lonergan will fit in perfectly, having played with the stopper during his time at Preston North End.
A great addition to help shortage in Gk department at moment. He is a top lad to have about the place and will certainly be able to handle it 👍#LFC #PNE https://t.co/lxCVuNLG9o

We consider it fairly unlikely that Lonergan will get a full-time contract, although there’s a chance we’ll sign up the experienced, Bosman keeper for a season – in a similar manner to which we signed Alex Manninger in 2016.
The idea is that the Englishman will simply help out in training over in America, especially as Alisson will be on holiday.
We reckon (and hope) Simon Mignolet will stay for the campaign and be Alisson’s understudy.
