Joe Gomez is arguably most Reds first-choice option to partner Virgil van Dijk in the heart of defence, despite Joël Matip stepping up more than admirably in his stead.
Gomez managed 16 Premier League appearances and nine showings in the Champions League in the 2018/19 season, before a lower leg fracture at Burnley early in December heavily curtailed his campaign.
The 22-year-old still managed to make his comeback last term though, when an April return at Porto saw Gomez replace Trent Alexander-Arnold in the second-half of the 4-1 win.
The centre-back was a mainstay in our Group Stage in the Champions League, missing only the final Napoli game; once he came back into the fold, Gomez played the full 90 in the first-leg against Barcelona before making late cameos in the fightback and our victorious final to lift No. 6.
In the top-flight title race, Gomez kept eight clean sheets in 15 appearances before injury at Turf Moor, including the 0-0 draw against Manchester City and the 1-0 Divock Origi show in the Merseyside Derby.
Watching the highlight video below of Gomez’s individual performances, we’re excited to see the very best of him again after pre-season ends and the 2019/20 season gets fully underway.
