Sadio Mane set to match 24-year-old Premier League record against Norwich

Liverpool forward Sadio Mane may get the opportunity to match a record set by Teddy Sheringham has the Reds take on Norwich in the first fixture of the new Premier League season.

The Senegalese star has managed to bag a goal in each of the last three opening league fixtures – hitting the net against Arsenal, Watford and West Ham.

If he manages to score against Norwich, he’ll match a record set by Sheringham 24 years ago. The record being scoring in four consecutive opening week league fixtures.

The former Tottenham Hotspur striker is the only player to ever do this for four years on the bounce, but Mane may get the chance to match the record against Norwich.

The first thing he’ll have to do though is to convince Jurgen Klopp of his fitness; he spent a large part of the summer representing his country at the African Cup of Nations.

Senegal reached the final, but couldn’t over turn Algeria, and Mane didn’t get a chance to feature even once over Liverpool’s pre-season tour because of it.

Divock Origi started in Sadio’s place when the Reds took on Manchester City at Wembley over the weekend, and it may happen again against Norwich.
