Forgotten man Allan handed possible work permit boost

Midfielder Allan Rodrigues de Souza might have inched closer to finally qualifying to play for Liverpool after earning a call-up to the Brazil Olympic Squad.

Allan actually joined us back in 2015 but he’s been unable to secure the work permit he requires to represent the Reds.

We have had to loan him out to Finland, Belgium, Germany, Cyprus and, most recently, Fluminense in his homeland. It’s been a cause of real frustration.

But intriguingly, some impressive performances in the Brazilian Serie A have caught the eye, and he’s been included in the 23-man squad of youngsters for friendlies against Colombia and Chile next month.

If he can take this opportunity and win himself a place at the Tokyo Games, he could potentially close in on the number of international appearances he needs to obtain that elusive clearance.

This is one to keep an eye on over the course of the season.

Elsewhere, Fabinho has deservedly regained a spot in the senior Brazil squad for their upcoming friendlies.

He joins Roberto Firmino in being selected for the Copa America champions, but Alisson’s injury means he misses out.
