LFC coach admits signing Michel Vorm has been ‘discussed’

Liverpool are considering offering current free agent Michel Vorm a contract.

The Dutchman was released by Spurs in the summer after five seasons as their no.2 behind Hugo Lloris, and has yet to sign terms with a new team.

And Liverpool’s goalkeeper coach John Achterberg has admitted that the Reds will potentially give Vorm a short-term deal.

“A good third goalie at a top club is not a superfluous luxury, I have always said this,” he told NOS, cited by Tribal Football.

“Michel Vorm’s arrival has been discussed.”

“Lonergan has more than 250 matches at Championship level, that cannot to be underestimated.”

Alisson is going to miss the next few weeks with his calf injury – and the fact Adrian almost missed the Southampton game with a swollen ankle meant Andy Lonergan was very close to starting the game…

It’s not acceptable for a keeper who was released by Middlesbrough in the summer to be guarding our net in a season in which we cannot afford any slip-ups – and Vorm is definitely an upgrade on the veteran Englishman.

Perhaps a six month deal would be smart, especially considering Adrian’s blunder at St. Mary’s and the need for proper competition while Alisson recovers.

Let’s watch this space…
