Nike change boot plan in order to snare massive Liverpool deal

It hasn’t been officially announced yet, but it seems that sooner or later Liverpool will announce their new mega sponsorship deal with Nike – that will see the sports manufacturing giant take over from New Balance as our kit maker.

According to the Mirror, the new deal will dwarf the £74m/year Manchester United get from Adidas and become the biggest in English football history.

The same report says that Nike are interestingly changing tact in their approach to club and player boot deals.

While they’re happy to spend outrageous sums on club kits going forward, they’re going to stop offering players such lucrative boot deals, in the expectation that they’ll still don Nike footwear even without blockbuster sums on the table.

We would have assumed Nike would have the money for both, but perhaps they plan to spend it all on Liverpool instead!

Theoretically, the relationship would begin from next season, when our New Balance agreement runs out.
