Chelsea handed injury boost ahead of Liverpool showdown

There have been so many injuries so far this season – Alisson for us, Aymeric Laporte for Manchester City, but Chelsea have had some good news ahead of this weekend’s clash with Liverpool.

Young midfielder Mason Mount limped off during the Blues’ encounter with Valencia in the Champions League, earlier in the week.

But scans, as per the Daily Star, have confirmed that the 20-year-old only suffered a sprained ankle and may yet make the team to face the Reds on Sunday.

This is great news for Chelsea, as the midfielder was a vital cog in the machine for Frank Lampard’s side against the Spaniards, and they looked lost without him.

The Londoners are going to need all the firepower than can get at the weekend, as Liverpool aren’t a team that sit back and, having just lost 2-0 to Napoli, will be looking to take their anger out on their Premier League rivals.

Jurgen Klopp’s men fell in Napes after a spot kick was gifted to the hosts, in farcical fashion, but a second nail in the coffin by Fernando Llorente sealed the deal.

Chelsea were awarded a penalty kick of their own with only a few minutes left on the clock, but former Everton star Ross Barkley smashed it off the crossbar and the Blues lost 1-0 to Valencia.
