Joel Matip is a serious doubt ahead of Liverpool v. RB Salzburg

Joel Matip is a doubt for Liverpool’s Champions League clash with Red Bull Salzburg this week, after sustaining an injury against Sheffield United over the weekend.

The centre half will be assessed before the game, as per the club’s official website, but the initial signs aren’t good as he missed training earlier this week.

That being said, Joe Gomez is surely more than ready to grab a chance in the starting XI by the scruff of its neck to prove his worth.

Xherdan Shaqri will also remain on the sidelines this week, and the game comes too soon for goalkeeper Alisson Becker who will need 2-3 more weeks before he’s in contention.

Adrian has proved he’s more than capable in the last couple of months however, so Jurgen Klopp is likely more than happy to stick with the Spaniard.

The boss was asked for a few words ahead of the game on the latest injury news. “In a good mood, good spirits, but we have to wait a little bit to give a final answer about fitness,he told LiverpoolFC.com.

Joel Matip obviously got a slight knock at Sheffield, we have to see how exactly it will be. Apart from that, everybody should be fine.

Of course, we have the players who weren’t available last week – that means Shaq is still out; Alisson is very close but for sure not for tomorrow.

The Reds play host to the Austrian champions on Wednesday night as they hope to make up for a pretty poor result in Naples.
