Adrian insists that Liverpool have “two No.1s”

Liverpool goalkeeper Adrian is ready to fight Alisson for the starting XI place that he’s assuredly going to just take back up now he’s fit.

The Spaniard has put in a more than admirable shift since the Brazilian sustained an injury in the first game of the Premier League season.

But Adrian isn’t happy with constantly sitting on the bench, and has welcomed the challenge of superstar stopper Alisson for the place between the sticks at Anfield.

When I signed for Liverpool I knew I was coming for a big challenge in my career and I think the competition makes us better. So to have two No.1s in the team is great for both of us,” he told the Telegraph.

It’s a good decision for the manager because everyone wants to have the best and I think we are here – two No.1s.

It’s not my mentality to be a No.2 and even less so when I am 32. Maybe in four, five years time I will tell you differently but it’s much better than being in a comfort zone of one No.1 and the other [goalkeeper] sitting on the bench forever.

It’s a great mentality for our deputy goalkeeper to have, honestly. We certainly wouldn’t want some chancer sitting on the bench collecting his wages and putting in next to no effort.

Adrian has already proved that his capable of stepping in for Alisson, when he’s needed, so let’s hope the relationship between the goalkeepers remains as healthy as it is now.
