Liverpool were able to dispatch Watford 2-0 at Anfield, but it wasn’t without its challenges as the bottom-placed Premier League team were up for the fight.
But the Reds knuckled down and managed to get through with a 1-0 lead for the majority of the second half. Nerves did pick up in the final 10-15 minutes – especially as Virgil van Dijk almost turned the ball into his own net.
Mohamed Salah netted a brace, but it wasn’t a good performance from the Liverpool squad by any means – but you can’t always be at your best – three points is three points!
Joe Gomez filled in for the injured Dejan Lovren, who was filling in the for injured Joel Matip, and the young Englishman put in a more than impressive shift.
Dare I say he was better than van Dijk against Watford?! Maybe.
Either way, the Reds back line stayed strong through the game – and Gomez was central to all of that, as the Reds managed to pick up their first clean sheet at Anfield this season, and the second on the bounce with Virgil and Joe as the centre back pairing.
Liverpool fans have been reacting to our No.12’s performance on social media, and here are some of our favourite Tweets:
Not the greatest performance but the 3 points is what matters. Gomez and VVD looking immense and Salah getting back to his scintillating best. The Wijnaldum injury is huge blow heading into the CWC. We go again, up them reds❤️🔴. #LFC
