Are we about to trade in Glen Johnson?
Liverpool may be about to sneak in ahead of previous favourites West Ham for the signature of full-back Carl Jenkinson, while allowing our long-serving Englishman Glen Johnson to join the Irons on a free…
According to the Daily Mail, the Arsenal owned defender – who has spent the season on loan at the Boleyn Ground – was supposedly close to permanently moving across London. However, Brendan Rodgers is now interested in the 23-year-old, which could turn Jenkinson’s head.
Jenkinson – who has one England cap to his name – has been an important part of the Hammers team that looked possible contenders for a European place for much of the early part of the season. And while Sam Allardyce’s men have tailed off during 2015, they haven’t conceded too many goals along the way and still remain ninth in the table.
If we do manage to secure Jenkinson ahead of West Ham, then the Mail also report that they will attempt to re-sign Glen Johnson, who left the club twelve years ago. The right-back is out of contract at the end of the season, and a new contract has yet to be agreed…
Liverpool fans – baring in mind the fact that we’d have to pay Arsenal a (potentially inflated?) fee for Jenkinson, would you be happy with him arriving to directly replace Johnson as a right-back option?
There’s probably more exciting, cheaper alternatives out there, despite Jenkinson’s solid season.
