Burnley agree to switch fixture – Reds to play first three games of new season away from home

Was our start to the 2016/17 season not already hard enough?

Now it’s been revealed by the Daily Mail that Burnley have agreed to change what was planned to be the first home game of the season to their own ground – Turf Moor.

It means we will play the first THREE games away from home.

We made the request to the club and the league in light of the ongoing redevelopment at Anfield.

But, the Premier League knew we’d request this for months – couldn’t they have given us the third game of the season at Anfield, therefore?

There was some uncertainty whether or not the switch would be allowed by local police as Blackburn Rovers play at home to Burton Albion on the same day, but it was agreed it wouldn’t be an issue due to its lower profile.

We must also give thanks to Burnley. The change means they will not play a home match for seven weeks in February and March in what could be a vital part of their season.
