Well, now we’ve seen it all.

We’re well aware that there have been some rumblings about Lucas Leiva possibly leaving the club this summer – but a loan deal? To Turkey? We’re not buying it.

Yet, according to Turkish news site Fotomac, that’s exactly what’s being discussed.

They claim ourselves and Galatasaray have agree a loan fee of around £800,000 for the season, but that the Brazilian’s £3 million per year wages will be a stumbling block.

This odd rumour aside, we’re not sure whether he’ll leave. Yes, he’s into his final 12 months of his contract, yes, he only started eight matches in 2016, and yes, he’s behind Henderson, Can, Grujic, and probably one other new signing in the pecking order.

However, could he not be used as a centre-back to cover for the injured Gomez? He played very well there last season when called upon, and it seems rash to buy someone else for short-term cover.

If it was up to us, we keep him until January then reassess.
