Liverpool are more popular in China than Real Madrid and Barcelona!
In fact, we sit in third place, level with Arsenal, behind our arch rivals Manchester United and Bayern Munich, interestingly, with the Bundesliga putting in plenty of effort to garner support in the Far East.
A report conducted by The Red Card (cited here in the Mail), worked out match viewing figures combined with the number of comments and follows on Chinese social media service Weibo.
Interestingly, Barca, who’ve the greatest player of all time on their books in Lionel Messi, sit 10th, behind Tottenham and Borussia Dortmund.
Their worldwide appeal is obvious, but La Liga hasn’t done well in attracting support from China, as proven by Real Madrid’s sixth position – despite winning two of the past three Champions Leagues.
Here’s the top 10 in full:
1. Manchester United
2. Bayern Munich
5. Manchester City
6. Real Madrid
7. AC Milan
9. Borussia Dortmund
