VIDEO : When Reina got a Red card

Posted by

We all saw the way N’Zonzi got away with his shocking push on Lucas yesterday.
If you can recall Pepe Reina was sent off in 2006 for something slightly similar although Pepe’s was not even half as bad as Robben acted the whole thing. Reina was red carded and banned for 3 games.

  1. Chelsea is full of criminals. Makes you wonder how Gerrard would have fit in had he moved there.

  2. yeah … ‘caus ehe is a Liverpool player. I remember. Gosh, how angry he was … and what’s even more unusual: Pepe with hair. LOL

  3. Reina deserved to be sent off for that, but regarding Blackburn, it helps when Allardyce is chums with Fergie, who has the FA eating out of his pocket. Blackburn should have had 3 men sent off yesterday:

Diouf for being his usual self; N’Zonzi for pushing Lucas by the face to the floor; and the idiot who kicked Maxi in the chest on the sideline.

All three deserved to be sent off, and yet Fat Sam has the FA in his pocket, just like Fergie. Rafa is in effect penalised for not questioning and condemning the referee’s at every opportunity, unlike some managers.

One more case in point, Vidic’s lack of even a card after bringing down Agbonlahor yesterday in the box. The ref (Alan Wiley?) was too scared of Fergie to send Vidic off, and he even failed to give him a yellow card for what was a deliberate hack at the legs to bring him down. He was a good 2 feet from the ball when he brought him down, and as the last man, he should have atleast been carded, but yet again Fergie gets away with it. One small consolation is that Vidic will be out of United at the end of the season. The last 2 seasons have highlighted how weak he has become at the back. Just look at Sunday, and how Torres ate him alive in the matches at Old Trafford and Anfield.

  4. What is that Robben falling down like?? Who is John Terry to come at Pepe Reina like that after he just put his hand on Robben’s cheek??? Gudjohnsen fell like he was shot by a firing squad when Pepe clearly had the ball.

  5. Alan Wiley was our ref on Sunday against Blackburn, and for those with long enough memories, he was the ref at Old Trafford last season when we won 4-1. His refereeing performance that day was pretty exemplary, he correctly called two penalty decisions, correctly sent Vidic off, and for reds fans he did the right thing in not sending Carra off when he arguably should have done. Wiley’s failure to send off Chimbonda for the horrific kick on Maxi was down to the Linesman’s poor positioning, not Wiley’s poor decision making. Basically the point I’m trying to make is Wiley is one of the better Premiership referees.

As for the Carling Cup final, Phil Dowd was refereeing that: last season Dowd sent off two Man United players at Fulham and incurred the wrath of Fergie afterwards, and I believe Dowd’s fear of infuriating Fergie further caused him to not send off Vidic when a red card was the only realistic option.
