A comprehensive victory with a now typical edge of tension which has become so customary at Anfield, has seen us through to the semi-finals of the Europa League where we will face Fernando Torres’ and Maxi Rodriguez’s former club Atletico Madrid (who incidentally will have Sergio Aguero suspended for the first away leg for a silly yellow card in the 93’ minute for time wasting). Here are my ratings for tonight’s game for each player:
Reina – had a solid game and was ‘betrayed’ in conceding Benfica’s goal when his wall opened up incomprehensively. An assurance!
Johnson – very close to top form. Attacked when asked to do so and kept Di Maria quiet for most of the evening. Resurrected!
Carragher – a bastion in defense oozing passion and screaming instructions to everyone. Invincible!
Kyrgiakos- what a bargain this big Greek has turned out to be. Solid game and rarely made a mistake. With him around Cardozo’s headers where no-where to be seen. Ulysses!
Agger – a performance that will surely make most Kopites want him to retain the position. Secure, fast and strong. Gave the back four added security across the line. The Great Dane!
Mascherano – masterful in midfield and impressive in sending our forwards on the killer counter. Blood Hound!
Lucas – dances around the midfield putting in tackles and harassing the opponents. Score a goal to remember for life. Samba Samba!
Kuyt – Stuff his imperfect first touch, the lad gives his heart and soul to the cause. Set to become another Liverpool legend. Blade Runner!
Benayoun – his twists and turns are mesmerizing, and he is only just getting back to full fitness. Winning Jolly!
Gerrard – yes, yes….it has taken him some time to see him do what we love so much, but even though he does not smile that much anymore, he is and will always be our Captain Fantastic! Irreplaceable!
Torres – Patient, cool and clinical. He’s worth every penny we paid for him including interest. Messiah!
Again, well done Reds!
