Benayoun completes Chelsea move

Liverpool FC have today completed the transfer of versatile attacking midfielder Yossi Benayoun to Chelsea.

The two clubs last month agreed an undisclosed fee for the player, although it is believed in many circles to be around the £6.5m mark, who joined Liverpool from West Ham in 2007, and the deal has been confirmed this afternoon.

The 30-year-old Israeli international made 134 appearances and scored 29 goals during his three seasons with the Reds, his goal against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu towards the end of the 2008/09 season being one of his most memorable along with the very nice record of being the only player to complete a hat-trick in the Champions League, Premier League & FA Cup.

Yossi has been linked with several moves away from the club for a number of months now, with previous interest shown from Moscow but Chelsea are the ones that have finally got their man as Benayoun is recruited to replace the departing Joe Cole.

A Liverpool spokesman said: “Yossi’s departure was agreed between the player and Rafael Benitez a number of weeks ago. Everybody at Liverpool FC wishes him well for the future.”

Liverpool fans will be watching keenly to see if any further players look to wear another clubs shirt next season and also who is brought in to replace the now blue Yossi.

  1. sale maybe something to do with attracting investors from the middle east. They dont particularly like israelites.

  2. Rowan might have a point here, but it is inevitable that some players will be sold. Yossi seemed on the way out before the summer, and can anyone blame him for going to play for Chelsea? Mascherano will also go, but I hope we can get some good money for him as Barca and Inter will up the ante to get his services. I reckon Euro 25/35 million is what we might get for him. A few other players will leave….perhaps the usual suspects! I am curious to see what Roy has up his sleeve.
