Damien Comolli blames Jordan Henderson for Liverpool sacking

Comolli reckons Henderson’s poor start to life on Merseyside earned him his marching orders…

Former director of football Damien Comolli has bizarrely blamed Jordan Henderson for his sacking back in April 2012, the Mirror reports.

Due to continued failure in the transfer market, Comolli was fired – but Henderson has turned out to be one of his very best signings following his £16m move in 2011.

“When we signed Jordan Henderson, he got so much criticism, I got so much criticism,” Comolli told the Dublin Web Summit.

Without wishing to heavily criticise former players, surely the £55m wasted on Andy Carroll and Stewart Downing had far more to do with Commolli’s sacking than the Henderson purchase.

While Henderson struggled during his first season with us, he resurrected his Liverpool career brilliantly – playing a vital role in last season’s title challenge, and earning the vice-captaincy as a result.

Comolli is not looked upon favourably by supporters, but it’s important to remember that while he did sign Carroll; he got £50m for Fernando Torres and brought Luis Suarez to the club as well.
