However, since returning to the side following an injury to the Australian, he’s steadily improved. Last night, he was at his very best to twice deny Chelsea striker Diego Costa.
First, he reacted brilliantly to a deflection off the heel of Martin Skrtel, sticking out a trailing leg to stab the ball clear, before coming out bravely to tackle the Spaniard as he closed in on goal.
The Belgian was a commanding presence all night and could do nothing about Branislav Ivanovic’s extra time winner. Do these saves prove that Mignolet can make the Liverpool number one spot his own again?
