The German international’s immense progress in the first team this season has had the mouths of many Reds watering at his future prospects.

And we haven’t been the only ones impressed by the 21-year-old summer signing’s successful summer move as well as his incredible displays in both midfield and defence.

“He’s a leader,” said former Arsenal man Kolo Toure, reports Daily Mirror. “When you’re on the pitch, you can see that by the way he plays. He is really confident and he talks on the pitch as well.

“Right now, Jordan Henderson is very good, but there’s no doubt this boy is going to be a king here. He is a top player, who can make a difference in games.

“He can score goals, his work-rate is amazing and there is no better player.”

Can only cost a minuscule £9.75 million when you consider just how much potential he has as well as his impressive maturity considering this is just his second season playing first team football.

Toure also hinted Can’s German nationality might have something to do with his remarkable performances – he was a youth star at Bayern Munich before moving to Bayer Leverkusen in 2013.

“He’s young, but he’s a top player. He has been playing outstandingly at the back and in midfield, he’s a very strong player. We like him here.

“He’s from Germany and German players are really good. I’m not surprised by how well he’s doing. They learn football and they are really intelligent, tactically outstanding and really strong.”
