Barcelona and Burnley full-backs linked heavily to Liverpool

As well as his forward options, Brendan Rodgers is facing another positional puzzle that he needs to solve in the summer, as the likely departure of Glen Johnson and Jon Flanagan’s injury setback means that we are incredibly short in terms of options at right-back.

However, with the season drawing to a close, replacements are already being lined up.

According to the Daily Mirror, both Martin Montoya of Barcelona, and Burnley’s Kieran Trippier are being lined up, and whilst they may come from vastly different sides, they will both bring some real depth to the full-back area.

Montoya – who has apparently agreed personal terms with the Reds, and is just awaiting the two clubs to agree a fee, the Mirror report – has become disgruntled with life at the Catalan club. He has made just eight appearances in La Liga, and could therefore be interested in a new challenge. And while he may not have featured that often this campaign, training against the likes of Lionel Messi, Neymar, and of course Luis Suarez, will surely more than prepare him for life against the Premier League’s best strikers.

Meanwhile, in Trippier, we are arguably getting one of the league’s most reliable performers. The 24-year-old has featured in all of the Clarets’ games this season, and whilst they now look set to go down, he – like many of the Sean Dyche’s squad – deserve a lot of praise for their efforts this campaign. He has four assists, and has proved that he fits the modern mould as a creative defender.

Which of the two right-backs would you prefer Reds, if either?
