Jordon Ibe leaving contract negotiations to his mum

In a refreshingly innocent approach to contract negotiations in the modern game, Jordon Ibe has revealed that rather have an agent sort out a new deal with Liverpool, it will be his mum that is trying to secure the best deal for the talented winger.

According to the Daily Mirror, Ibe would like to stay at Anfield, and – with the club putting an offer on the table – trusts that his parents will be able to make that happen.

“Liverpool want me to stay here and my mum and step-dad are sorting that out with the club. So hopefully everything will just get sorted by the end of the season because this is where I want to be,” he said.

The 19-year-old has been such an exciting breath of fresh air since he came into the first-team, following a very productive loan spell with Championship side Derby. And he wants to continue developing, and will therefore let off-field issues be resolved by his parents.

“I’ve never seen the need to have an agent. My concern was just playing football and if I needed help deciding contracts off the pitch, then I would always go to my parents.

“My family will always be number one to me because I trust them. It’s not that I’ve had a bad experience with agents. But I don’t see what they can do that my parents can’t do either,” he added.

Following the apparent difficulties that have come from the discussions with Raheem Sterling, Ibe’s approach is extremely encouraging, and shows that football, rather than financial gain, is by far his main priority.

It is now up to us to match his ambition on the pitch.

Let’s hope his parents are fair negotiators, and our wonderkid ties himself down to Liverpool for years to come!
