Ibe will join the likes of Daniel Sturridge, Philippe Coutinho and Jordan Henderson in signing a new contract, while Brendan Rodgers will no doubt be hoping that Martin Skrtel and Raheem Sterling now follow suit (via The Metro).

According to The Telegraph, the Reds have praised Ibe’s role in the discussions and are pleased that things were wrapped up so quickly. The player’s negotiations were handled by his stepfather rather than an agent.

Ibe had two years left on his previous deal but Rodgers was eager to reward the youngster’s progress. The boss now sees the teenager as a key member of his first-team squad, despite him having played just 15 times for us.

He returned to us from Derby County at the start of the year, having impressed while on loan at the Championship club. He made quick progress upon his return to the team but unfortunately missed close to two months through injury after picking up a knock in a Europa League tie.

Let’s hope some others take a leaf from his book and sign up without kicking up more of a fuss…
