Lyon have once again attempted to quash interest in star striker Alexandre Lacazette, with reports in the Daily Star claiming that the Frenchman will not be sold for less than €50m (£36m).

Liverpool are just one of a host of European giants with an interest in the 23-year-old, who has scored 31 goals in all competitions so far this season. However, the player is currently contracted until 2018 and is seemingly in no rush to leave the Stade de Gerland.

Interestingly though, if the Star are to be believed, this news is more encouraging than you might think. If Brendan Rodgers and co are prepared to pay upwards of £30m to sign Christian Benteke from Aston Villa (via the Liverpool Echo), then maybe they’ll stretch a little further.

We’re clearly in desperate need of a new striker, with Daniel Sturridge, Mario Balotelli, Rickie Lambert and Fabio Borini having managed just eight Premier League goals between them so far this season, so surely a large proportion of our transfer budget is best spent strengthening our forward line.

Unfortunately, the comments of Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas are likely to be a better indication of the club’s stance on the player. The Star quotes him as saying: “We will do everything within our powers to hold on to Alexandre.

“You never have any certainties in football, but we are determined to keep him here. A transfer fee of €50m would not be enough for an attacker like him. He is priceless.”
