Liverpool predicted XI v Stoke City – Three new signings start, no Raheem Sterling

DM) Joe Allen

There’s going to be a lot of competition for this spot in the team. Emre Can will be looking to take it, as he tries to establish himself as a midfielder, while the experienced Lucas Leiva is also likely to be available. If you add in any potential new signing – including Mateo Kovacic of Inter Milan – then it’s a very hard one to call. We’ve gone with the Welshman, who has been impressing on international duty so far this summer.

CM) Jordan Henderson

Wearing the armband and replacing Steven Gerrard – it’s going to be a make or break season for our new captain, who will be hoping to start with a win in order to prove his doubters wrong.

CM) James Milner

He was signed to be a central midfielder and it’s hard to see him not getting a start on the opening weekend. With both Milner and Henderson in the centre of the park, our midfield ‘engine’ should certainly be running well.
