Our Croatian centre-half Dejan Lovren is over the moon with the our £12.5m summer signing of Nathaniel Clyne, reports the Echo.
We acquired the right-back from Lovren’s former club Southampton earlier this summer, and the pair have been reunited on our pre-season tour of the Far East. In fact, both could play alongside each other this Tuesday during our first friendly against a Thai All-Star XI.
And Lovren has been quick to salute the England international, who we hope can hit the ground running and fill the void left by the departed Glen Johnson.
“I would describe Nathaniel as a sports car – he’s quick, strong and an intelligent guy,” Lovren said.
“I played with him at Southampton and I have only positive words about him. He’s a great signing for us and I can’t wait to see him playing on the pitch.”

As well as praising Clyne, Lovren has spoken kindly about Divock Origi, the Belgian prodigy who’s joined up with the first-team after spending last season on loan at Lille in France.
“(Divock) Origi is also a great signing for us. He’s a strong guy, massive, quick and it’s great to have him here. All the new signings are making everyone be better on the pitch.”
During the 2013/14 campaign, Lovren and Clyne excelled for the Saints, which first convinced us to part with a cool £20m for the former last summer, before we came back in for Clyne this.
Lovren failed to live up to his hefty price-tag, but gradually improved after Christmas, and we’re not giving up on him yet. Hopefully he and Clyne can enjoy the same kind of defensive relationship they did for the Saints, and prove some of the doubters wrong.
