Lucas Digne demands transfer

Reported Liverpool target Lucas Digne has asked PSG if he can leave, his manager Laurent Blanc has confirmed.

The 22-year-old left-back is unhappy at being stuck behind Maxwell in the pecking order for the Ligue 1 champions, and wants to test his mettle elsewhere as a result.

“First, it is he who very clearly asked to leave”, Blanc told L’Equipe, reported in the Daily Mail. “For now, he is with us, he is very professional, he trains very well and has prepared excellently. He has shown the results in friendlies.”

We’ve been linked with Digne to bolster our options on the left side of defence.

Alberto Moreno was signed from Sevilla last summer, but didn’t entirely justify his price-tag during his debut season.

Jose Enrique is surplus to requirements and will surely be offloaded to any takers, while Jon Flanagan is a long-term injury victim.

Summer signing Joe Gomez has shone during pre-season, but it would perhaps be dangerous to head into a season in which we’re competing in the notoriously energy consuming Europa League with only the teenage starlet as back-up to Moreno.

Digne’s extremely talented, but fas failed to kick on from his early promise with the French giants – but that’s partly due to a lack of playing time.

For the right money, he could be a clever addition – though that’ll bring our summer tally of new acquisitions to eight. Getting all those to gel quickly could be hard.
