Most Liverpool supporters were lambasting Brendan Rodgers for selecting Dejan Lovren to partner Martin Skrtel in defence yesterday ahead of Mamadou Sakho, but the Croat did well – helping us secure a vital clean-sheet.
The Croat won nearly all of his aerial duels, was positionally sound and passed the ball from defence without fuss – and you can see from this clip below just how much the team and individual performance meant to him.
Walking past the travelling Liverpool fans into the tunnel, Lovren marched with hand aloft, thumping the badge on his chest in a show of emotion and passion that will go down brilliantly with supporters who’ve seriously doubted him to date.
Provided Lovren keeps up yesterday’s levels, his doubters will be prepared to forgive him. It’s important to remember that he has much to do to justify his 2014 price-tag, but this clip perhaps shows just how much it means to him – and that’s a pretty good place to start.
Roll on Bournemouth next week.
