West Ham facing selection crisis ahead of Liverpool meeting

West Ham United are set to hand Liverpool a big confidence boost ahead of their visit to Anfield on Saturday, with the Echo reporting that the London side could be without a recognised centre-forward for the game.

They state that Diafra Sakho has picked up a thigh strain and is now likely to join Enner Valencia, Mauro Zarate and former Liverpool number nine Andy Carroll in the treatment room.

With fifth choice striker Modibo Maiga also having now left Upton Park (via the Daily Mail), manager Slaven Bilic could be forced to turn to academy graduate Elliot Lee, who has just six senior appearances to his name.

The 20-year-old has previously had loan spells at Colchester, Southend and Luton, but has only managed four goals in the process. His single strike for the Hammers came in this year’s Europa League preliminary rounds.

West Ham made a stunning start to the season, winning 2-0 away at Arsenal on the opening day of the season, but consecutive defeats to Leicester and Bournemouth have soured the atmosphere among the Hammers faithful.

With goalkeeper Adrian and defender Carl Jenkinson also ruled out through suspension, it could be a difficult afternoon for United, as we look to maintain our unbeaten start to the new campaign.
