West Ham United and England midfielder Declan Rice says Liverpool’s Brazilian number six Fabinho is the best defensive midfielder in the world.
Via the Daily Star, when Rice was asked who he thought was the best player in the world in his defensive midfield position, he quickly replied: “Fabinho.”
He went on to explain his choice, adding: “He’s adapted to the Premier League really quickly. He sees a pass, reads the game well. I’ve got to say him.”
Since arriving from AS Monaco for around £39 million, the gangly midfielder has been superb. It took him a little while to adapt to English football, but since then he has excelled every week.
There have some stunning performances from him, but they seem to go a little unnoticed sometimes because he is so consistent.
Fabinho is likely to play against Red Bull Salzburg in the Champions League on Wednesday night while he will be crucial, too, against Leicester City in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
