Liverpool starting XI v Bordeaux named – Rodgers reverts to 3-4-2-1

Posted by

We produced a predicted XI piece based on the squad Brendan Rodgers has taken out to France with him, but new revelations suggest we got it wrong to stick with the 4-3-3 he’s used so far this season.

Instead, it seems as though our manager is taking a serious risk and switching to a wing-back, 3-4-2-1 formation – just as he did last term when in search of creative spark.

This means Jordon Ibe and Alberto Moreno will work the flanks in both defensive and attacking roles, while Coutinho and Adam Lallana will be given free reign behind Divock Origi, earning his first Liverpool start.

James Pearce at the Echo confirms that this is the case, while respected Liverpool writer @DamianLFCpl on Twitter has backed up his claims – naming the same lineup.

Our first switch to the wing-back formation last term came after a series of stale, bland attacking performance with the regular 4-3-3, and it worked well over the festive period, although it stopped bearing fruit around March.

If all the reports are to be believed – here’s the side that will start tonight.

Thoughts, Reds?
