James Milner ruled out of Liverpool action with hamstring injury

Liverpool vice-captain James Milner has been ruled out of today’s Premier League clash with Crystal Palace due to a hamstring injury, the Echo reports.

The English midfielder picked up the problem during Thursday’s victory over FC Rubin in Russia, and has been ruled out of our last fixture before the international break.

As a result, Lucas will captain the side today.

The seriousness of Milner’s problem has not been publicised yet, but Jurgen Klopp’s comments suggest that it’s not too serious.

“In Kazan, he had not the best moment with his muscle.” said the German. “But he’s an experienced player, and it was nothing serious and in this moment he can train.”

Milner is Liverpool’s highest paid player having switched from Manchester City in the summer, but has yet to truly stamp his authority on the side. The 29-year-old arrived as a central midfielder under Brendan Rodgers, but was used in a wide position in the Europa League by new manager Jurgen Klopp.

His work-rate is superb, but he’s yet to really display the quality that somebody on his wages should be delivering.
