Jordon Ibe was one of Liverpool’s better players during Sunday’s disappointing defeat to Crystal Palace, but has admitted the defeat has upset the squad.
The 19-year-old earned a start in the Premier League for the first time under Jurgen Klopp due to his impressive Europa League outing on Thursday – where his goal helped us beat Rubin Kazan.
“It’s disappointing, everybody’s angry,” Ibe told Liverpoolfc.com after the 2-1 loss.
“We played alright and we created chances to get the goals but it just didn’t come today.
“[The manager] just told us to keep our composure because it shouldn’t be an excuse having a midweek game.
“We didn’t start the best, it’s just improving on that and starting from the first minute, keeping the ball, keeping composure, building into the game and trying to win.”
Ibe’s been called up England Under-21s’ Euro Qualifier against Kazakhstan during the international break, so won’t be working alongside the new manager during the next fortnight.
Versus Palace, he showed his pace and linked up especially well with right-back Nathaniel Clyne – who was happy to overlap his younger team-mate when possible.
It’ll be interesting to see if Ibe keeps his spot in the side, with Roberto Firmino benched for the Palace defeat, and Daniel Sturridge hopefully returning from injury.
Ibe’s speed out wide makes him a more dynamic option than Firmino or Lallana, who are both more comfortable in central areas.
