Emre Can joins Firmino in persuading world-class Gotze to sign for Liverpool; explains why transfer makes sense

Liverpool’s players are ramping up efforts to convince Bayern Munich’s playmaker Mario Gotze to make the switch to Merseyside this summer, reports Sport Bild.

The German publication quotes our young midfielder, who’s established himself as a guaranteed starter in central midfield this season.

“I would be very happy if Mario would opt for Liverpool. Everyone knows he’s a giant [in football terms] and what qualities he has,” Can said.

“At FC Bayern he lacks a little confidence – which is understandable when you get so little time. The step for Liverpool would be good for Mario. Jürgen Klopp has shown this season how much trust he puts in young players.”

Both Can and Gotze have been called up to Germany’s Euro 2016 squad, so hopefully Can will continue selling Liverpool to his international team-mate during their time together in Switzerland.

Gotze is out of favour in Bavaria and incoming Italian Carlo Ancelotti has told the 23-year-old he can leave this summer, opening up the possibility the scorer of the World Cup Final winning goal in 2014 will reunite with Klopp – who managed his development so brilliantly at Borussia Dortmund.

Can’s words follow Roberto Firmino’s, who similarly is desperate for his former Bundesliga opponent to join him on Merseyside:

“Götze I still know well from my time in Germany, when I played with Hoffenheim against Borussia Dortmund and Bayern. He has incredible qualities in attack. He would fit in well with us and will surely help us with his class also,” the Brazilian told Sport Bild last week.

The thought of an ever-improving Can holding in midfield and creating a platform for the likes of Gotze and Firmino in attacking midfield is mouthwatering – and we hope that following the Europa League – we focus on acquiring this kind of talent for the new campaign.
