Liverpool believe they have won race for bargain £3m wonderkid

Liverpool have beaten off competition from Chelsea and Arsenal to sign Leicester City defender Ben Chilwell, for a fee as small as £3m, Dominic King in the Daily Mail claims, and a transfer could be completed soon.

The 19-year-old didn’t feature for the title winners in the Premier League, but shone on loan at Huddersfield in the Championship – where he impressed Jurgen Klopp’s best friend David Wagner – the man in charge at the West Yorkshire club.

This obviously got back to Liverpool’s manager, who’s now moving quickly to secure the left-back ahead of our rivals.

Chilwell is competing with England at this summer’s Toulon tournament, and Liverpool will be keeping a close eye on the fullback throughout.

Fans have been crying out for left-back reinforcements most of the season, but especially following Alberto Moreno’s performance in the Europa League Final.

Chilwell is not the automatic improvement many are hoping for, and rumours in the Mirror about Jonas Hector potentially signing will appease supporters more.

Due to Chilwell’s age though both could arrive ahead of the 2016/17 campaign.
