Details of Mane’s Liverpool deal revealed: Fee could rise to £38.5m

Sadio Mane is on the verge of completing a move to Anfield after having a medical this past Monday afternoon, and the details of the deal have now been revealed, as reported by The Telegraph.

Many were questioning the size of the fee, with £30m seeming like quite a lot for the Senegalese international. It seems now that the fee could rise as high as £38.5m though, smashing our record transfer fee for Andy Carroll (via the Telegraph).

The report claims that an up front fee of £34.5m has already been agreed, with further payments set to be made depending on Mane’s appearances and performances for the club, as well as being based on whether we qualify for the Champions League and how far we go in the competition. The figure will apparently rise to between £36m and £38.5m, which is a huge amount.

The 24-year-old is unquestionably a talented winger, and he could prove to be exactly what we need. £38.5m is a lot of money though, and if he were to struggle at Liverpool it could prove a dangerous gamble.

This is apparently £10m more than we were originally willing to pay, but Jurgen Klopp clearly feels strongly that Mane is the right player to help take us to the next level.

The report suggests that Klopp’s position at Liverpool is one of the main reasons Mane chose to sign for Liverpool, with the former Red Bull Salzburg star keen to work under such a prestigious manager.
