Video: Sadio Mane’s first interview as a Liverpool player – Klopp played ‘big role’ in transfer

Sadio Mane is now officially a Liverpool player, with the Senegalese international completing a £30m transfer from Southampton after completing his medical this past Monday (via the Echo). His first interview as a Red has been released and he’s absolutely thrilled to be joining such a massive club.

Mane spoke of all the legends that have come through Liverpool, revealing just how honoured he was to be following in their footsteps. He claims that as a kid he dreamed of playing for a club like Liverpool, insisting that he was looking forward to working hard and giving his all to the club.

He also highlighted just how important Jurgen Klopp was in his decision to join the club, claiming that the German manager showed incredible faith in him and convinced him Liverpool is where he belongs.

“I spoke with him. I think he played a big role for my coming to Liverpool and I want to thank [him] for all the confidence [he showed in me],” he said.

“It’s the right club, the right coach, and the right moment to change.”

He stressed that the day he officially signed for Liverpool was the best day of his life, and claimed he was looking forward to linking up with his old Southampton teammate Nathaniel Clyne as well as building partnership with Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho.

It’s absolutely fantastic to get this one through the door and we can’t wait to see him take to the field for the first time as a Liverpool player. There has been some negativity from certain sections of the fanbase regarding this transfer, but we have faith in Jurgen Klopp’s transfers and we’re confident he’ll be a real success.
