Liverpool’s favourite club for transfer dealings is revealed – and it’s not Southampton

Posted by

If we asked you to name who we’d done the most business with in the Premier League era, we’d hazard a guess that many of you would say Southampton.

In recent seasons, we’ve seen Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert, Nathaniel Clyne, Dejan Lovren – and most recently – Sadio Mane cross the divide.

But, in the last 25 years, they make up five of only six players to make the move. The other was emergency goalie Paul Jones back in 2004. Two players went the other way, Bruce Grobbelaar in 1994 and Mark Walters in 1996.

The most well-worn route? West Ham <-> Liverpool, which seen 16 deals done.

According to lfchistory.net, only four went from West Ham to us –  Yossi Benayoun, Javier Mascherano, Daniel Sjolund, and Julian Dicks.

12 have gone the other way, including Joe Cole, Andy Carroll, Stewart Downing, Craig Bellamy, Rob Jones, and Neil Ruddock.

The Echo claim the most well-worn route in the league is between Spurs and Portsmouth (17 players). Ourselves and West Ham are second.
