Liverpool player ratings vs Fleetwood: Firmino & Grucij hugely impressive

Posted by

A really dominant performance from start to finish, with our quality unquestionably showing against lesser opposition. Goals from Marko Grujic, Roberto Firmino, Lucas, and Ben Woodburn ensured us a 5-0 win, and we really looked impressive.

Here’s how we rate the players from the 5-0 win over Fleetwood:

First-half team

Loris Karius – 6.0

It was hardly surprising that the German shot-stopper had very little to do, so it will be interesting to see him facing more serious opposition.

Jon Flanagan – 6.0

A solid performance from the young full-back, and hopefully he’ll be able to find the form he showed before his injury.

Alberto Moreno – 7.5

Constantly getting forward and looking to overlap, putting good crosses and cut-backs in – including one which led to Marko Grujic’s goal.

Joel Matip – 7.0

A superb, calm, and composed performance from another one of our new signings.

Dejan Lovren – 6.5

Nothing wrong with the captain-on-the-night’s performance, and he’ll be more confident of securing a starting spot when the season starts.

Kevin Stewart – 6.5

Solid and assured in midfield, although we didn’t exactly need much protection against Fleetwood.

Marko Grujic – 8.5

A fantastic first performance from the Serbian, who not only earned an early penalty, but also got the only goal of the first-half. He looks like a superb signing, and it will be great to see more of him.

Trent Alexander-Arnold – 7.0

The youngster looks like a really exciting prospect, and this pre-season could do him a world of good.

Lazar Markovic – 5.5

This wasn’t exactly the performance that will convince Jurgen Klopp that he deserves to be at Liverpool next season, but we know the talent he’s got.

Sadio Mane – 7.0

His pace and power look a real asset, and he played a large part in the buildup to goal.

Danny Ings – 5.5

Not a bad performance for the most part, but his saved penalty certainly seemed to impact his game.

Second-half team

Adam Bogdan – 6.0

Even less to do than Karius.

Connor Randall – 5.5

Randall was okay, but doesn’t look likely to go much further than this.

Brad Smith 6.0

Always an exciting player to watch, but we had an easy ride in the second half.

Andre Wisdom – 6.0

Wisdom looked solid at the back, but will need more of a test to show what he can do.

Tiago Ilori – 6.0

It’s hard to tell against a team like Fleetwood, but Ilori looked impressive.

Cameron Brannagan – 5.5

Nothing too exciting, but nor was there a foot put wrong.

Ben Woodburn – 7.0

He looked genuinely shocked when he scored, but what a debut for him.

Lucas – 7.0

We were the ones who were shocked when Lucas scored, as it’s certainly not something we see from him very often.

Ryan Kent – 6.5

Really direct and full of skill, with the assist for Woodburn’s goal.

Ovie Ejaria – 6.5

A fine performance again, including an assist.

Roberto Firmino – 8.0

Two goals and a generally superb performance. This could be a great season for the Brazilian.

It wasn’t exactly a stern test, but we looked superb and clinical against Fleetwood. Hopefully we see more of the same against bigger and better opposition.
