Another young starlet nears loan move – striker passes medical in Holland

Posted by

Young striker Taiwo Awoniyi is closing in on a loan move to Dutch top flight side, NEC Nijmegen.

The Nigerian does not qualify for a UK work permit, and thus will go to the Netherlands in a bid to get a season of regular football under his belt.

He spent last season on loan at German second division side FSV Frankfurt, making 14 appearances and scoring one goal.

The news has been reported by both the Express and the Star, but it appears like the original source for the story is OwnGoal Nigeria. We cannot vouch for their reliability, but it sounds like it’s true to us.

“He underwent medicals with NEC Nijmegen this afternoon, everything went well and he could make his debut this weekend, he is excited about the chance he will get in the team,” a source allegedly told the site.

Nijmegen finished last season in tenth place. They’ve drawn their first two games this season, playing out a 2-2 with Go Ahead Eagles and a 1-1 with Zwolle.
