Simon Mignolet claims two impressive new records after Arsenal penalty save

Posted by

Simon Mignolet is the proud holder of two new records.

The oft-criticised Belgian was in good form at the weekend; he could do little about Arsenal’s three goals and looked generally strong, confident, and solid.

We didn’t realise it at the time, but his penalty save from Walcott in the first half means he’s now saved more spot kicks in the Premier League era than any other Liverpool stopper. (via Echo)

Here’s the list:

  • 5 saves – Mignolet
  • 4 – James
  • 3 – Reina
  • 1 – Dudek, Grobbelaar, Brad Jones, Kirkland, Westerveld

He’s now saved five of the eleven kicks he’s faced in a Red shirt – giving him a save percentage of 45%.

And that percentage is where the other record has been claimed: he’s now level with Chelsea’s Dmitri Kharine as holding the best save percentage with a single Premier League club.
